Thank you for looking at this fun interactive bundle. Students will have fun trying to guess the flow of the stories while practicing word families and basic phonetic skills. This set can be used for kindergarten and first grade. Some sounds within this set include more than 1 mat. You may see 2-3 focus mats for a single phonics sound. It is best to use the 5 mil lamination sheets for the center mats. I know personally, school lamination paper is just too thin for me, so I use the 5 mil to make them a lot stronger and they last longer. For the center mats, it takes time to put them together but you will only have to do it once and they can be used for years. I had my kids help me cut and place velcro coins. They found it fun so it was a win on both ends.

Your comprehension station is set for the year with these phonics mats. This tool is also differentiated for your beginning readers and includes picture help. Great for reading comprehension.
NOTE: These take a bit of time to put together if you are prepping the mats for centers. You may want to have one really helpful student help you cut or add the Velcro dots to save time.
Each mat has 6 words to choose from. Not every mat will have all 6 words used. Some mats will use only 5 or 4 words; therefore, you will have extra pieces. Toss those if you are using the black and white outlines, or leave them on the mats if you are using the actual mats. It is created that way, so students are challenged to chose the correct word and to really think about the sentences. Not all the mats are stories that flow; some will be simple sentences that are not related to each other.
While this phonics tool was specifically created for first grade, I have seen purchases for kindergarten and grades above first. After school teachers have also been able to use the phonics mats for their programs. You are practicing fluency, decoding, comprehension, and phonics all in one.
It’s best to introduce and model how to do the activities before sending students to work on them independently.It is best to do the ones with pictures first then send them off with the mats to centers for practice to mastery. These phonics mats are made to be practice in addition to what you are already teaching or have already taught. They should only be used independently after you already have taught the skills and use. These phonics mats are perfect for first grade. Not all words will be cvc. Please note that new vocabulary will be introduced within the phonics mats in addition to the sound being practiced. These phonics mats are for reading fluency practice. Please take a careful look at the preview and see if these will be too easy, too difficult, or just right for your students. These phonics mats are also self storage mats, so no searching for the pieces–they are stored right on the mats!

Sight Word Interactive Focus Mats (First 50)
$14.00This resource is one of my favorite. Students experience reading in context with their sight words.
These are predictable focus mats for students practicing sight words. This set includes both black and white and also color sets. Each mat focuses on one word. These are similar to the Interactive Phonics Mats. These stories have been tried and tested before posted. Most of the stories include a rhyming pattern. These simple stories and poems are fun and easy for students to read and remember. You can place these in a binder or in a book bin. You will find mats with the stories on the right side of the mat or on the left side. This is done so that if you place in a binder it is even and leveled on both side.
Words that students may not know right away are highlighted . As they practice with these words, they will pick up the new vocabulary words. It’s amazing how much your students will grow. Each mat includes 5-6 empty spaces. This set
includes 50 sight words stories. Some words have more than 1 story for that word. This is the first 50 set. The 2nd 50 set will be available soon to complete the Fry 100 set.
