This resource is one of my favorite. Students experience reading in context with their sight words.
These are predictable focus mats for students practicing sight words. This set includes both black and white and also color sets. Each mat focuses on one word. These are similar to the Interactive Phonics Mats. These stories have been tried and tested before posted. Most of the stories include a rhyming pattern. These simple stories and poems are fun and easy for students to read and remember. You can place these in a binder or in a book bin. You will find mats with the stories on the right side of the mat or on the left side. This is done so that if you place in a binder it is even and leveled on both side.
Words that students may not know right away are highlighted . As they practice with these words, they will pick up the new vocabulary words. It’s amazing how much your students will grow. Each mat includes 5-6 empty spaces. This set
includes 50 sight words stories. Some words have more than 1 story for that word. This is the first 50 set. The 2nd 50 set will be available soon to complete the Fry 100 set.

These sight words are taken from the Fry’s first 100 list. Each book is 5-6 pages of word work activities. The activities change minimally but will include cut and paste sentence sort, find and dab, write the sight word, read it, make a sentence, color by sight word, read a passage and highlight, unscramble the word, sight word punch cards, fill in the sentence and more. These books are comprehensive and full of great word work activities. Cut the books in half sheets, staple and distribute to each student.

Using the same inferential passage for the week will help to strengthen vocabulary and also reading fluency. These are perfect for small group reading. Depending on the reading level your students are on, you may need to read the passages with them or have them read independently. There are two sets in this packet. One set includes lines for students to write, while the other version includes a boxed space where students can write. Choose the set that’s the best for your students.
This packet has 10 reading passages for students in first or second grade. If you are teaching a lesson on inferences, you can use these passages to supplement and reinforce the skill you are teaching.
