In this set, students will be introduced to bits of information about various animals. Hopefully this will peak their interests to research more. This is most appropriate for first and second graders. Can be used with kindergarten students who are at a higher reading level and if you complete the tasks with them.

The goal is for students to focus on referencing the text for their answers. As you know, referencing the text is an important skill to learn in terms of focused reading . It is most important in the upper grades. However, when students have adequate practice of a specific skill they are more successful. Therefore, practicing this skill from the early grades will help students be more keen in referencing the text in 3rd grade and beyond. The reading comprehension passages are short intentionally so as to match the attention span of the little ones and also so that they can focus on the target skill which is 90-100% accuracy in answering the questions by referencing the passages and rechecking their answers. These are best for your higher level beginning readers.
