Phonics Based Reading Comprehension and Text Evidence for Beginners-BUNDLE

This set of reading comprehension decodable text evidence passages will get your beginning readers engaged and excited about reading. This set was made specifically for the purpose of aiding students in the lower grades with practicing the skill of looking back in the text for explicitly stated information or for implicit information that could aid them in answering the comprehension questions. Purchasing this bundle gives you an additional discount as opposed to purchasing each file separately.

 

The stories in this bundle include CVC, digraphs, diphthongs, r-controlled, blends, long vowels and more. Build fluency and comprehension as students practice reading the phonics stories for the week while they also demonstrate understanding by highlighting key information in the text. This set was created specifically for first grade students. However, it has been used with kinder, second and even third grade students.

 

The purpose of this resource is to get students in the habit of highlighting and identifying key information from simple passages that assists them in answering comprehension questions. They highlight explicitly stated information within the text. These passages are phonics based so students will be learning their weekly phonics words as they practice comprehension.

 

Things To Know:

 

1. The CVC packet within this file has two sets. One set includes stories with lines where students will be able to write their answers and color code in the story. The other set includes the same stories without lines for your students who are not writing well as yet. In order to demonstrate understanding of what they have read, they will be able to color in the text only without focusing on writing. You have the option to choose which works best for your students and your needs.

 

2. These passages are for use at small group. Considering that these are for students who are still working on decoding and also on text evidence. It is best that they are not doing them independently in the beginning. Work with students at small group with this resource until they are able to do them on their own. This is a great way to start having students use text evidence and “prove it” by color coding in the short passages. 3. Each story includes the focus phonics skill at the top left. Key words are repeated at the bottom for fluency. Three fluency stars are at the top of each page as well. Some sounds include more than one story.
